Large Drawing
One of the projects from school, where we're supposed to have a large piece of artwork in the end. I went around the city sketching in my sketchbook, before redrawing/enlarging and linking the original sketches to form the large drawing.

the words of Mr. Wood
Ashley Wood that is.
"Cut away the bullshit, the swindle, the galleries, the cooler-than-shit historic myths of street/gallery/animation/low/high/brut/comic art background and you're left with the image. Does the image work without a clapperhand explaining why it rocks? No? Then fuck off, write a novel, and leave art to someone else. Intellectualize and die."
*drops to ground and kowtows in hero worship*
that is a completely tattoo worthy quote, is it not?
INTELLECTUALIZE AND DIE.

Recent Stuff :D
have been drawing quite a bit recently, outside of what is required in school. :X been slacking for a while.
first two are drawn from reference, Weegee's New York. i super super love weegee's photos.

^nib and ink

^graphite on paper, although the paper abit too rough for the texture that i was going for, used a tortillion to do the smoothing of shades. tortillions are cool.
hardest bits to do is the shading on the legs, to show the knee and the calf muscles :/ so it's good to reference from photo because when do in life drawing classes, i'm usually too busy with getting the shape of the body correct to be bothered about the correct muscular definition. :X
lecturer says is good to copy from old masters' drawings because then you get a pretty good idea of the muscles of body and the underlying structure of skeleton/how different muscles strain and stretch in different poses, etc. got to do that for class, so will report more on that soon.

^nib and ink drawing of an acquaintance. i find that the nibs with round ends suit me better than the ones without the round tips. they're much more suited to do bold, fast lines, so work well for quick drawings/sketches, but too clumsy for delicate line work.
will try to borrow a camera to take photos of larger drawings in my studio. :D
haven't done much with colours yet though. i kinda want to learn how to draw correctly first, before i start using colour, but maybe doing both together is better. opinions?

Dreams of a New Space

please click to enlarge. :D
details

ahahaha!!! i'm finally back with new stuff. have been such a lazy asshole. ^^
anyways, this illustration was commissioned by the red dot for the lifts in the building.
my concept was to have people go into the lift, and be transported into another space. To stimulate their creativity and let their imaginations go wild.

ACRES fundraiser
HELLO ALL :D
I did a quick project for Aware Concerns and Research Society recently. They're an AWESOME....no beyond awesome. They're a freaking fantastic animal rights group that did a humongous lot for the improvement of animal rights and care in Singapore.
Check them out at www.acres.org.sg

This is an illustration for a fundraising dinner, to be sold as a one-off postcard/button set.

This is the completed version. :) I'm happy how it turned out.

HELLO
and UPDATE!
Sorry everybody for not commenting/posting for SUCH A LONG TIME. don't worry, I haven't dropped off the face of the earth, was just busy doing some projects and making money (such a necessary evil).
I've just completed a mural project for a shopping mall, pictures below! Had initially planned to fill up more of the background, but due to time constraints... :(
for those in Singapore who are able to go down and take a look, it is in Marina Square. Second level, outside the GV wall (where there is a collaboration mural) Several awesome graffiti artists are involved, like Killer Gerbil, Snatch Thieves, and illustrators like White Dog Bobby, Manda Panda!!! Was bloody excited to meet Gerbil, and he's a totally awesomely nice guy!

I have more news to post, but that'd probably be in another entry. watch out for this space! I'm back!!!
thanks to those who encouraged me so much. Thanks guys, you people are freaking awesome.
i just realized how bloody limited my vocabulary seems because i keep using the word awesome. but it really is awesome! yeah.

complaint.
i think my drawings have become a little souless recently. i no longer have the same sense of fun when i put the pen to paper. it probably shows in my illustrations. probably because of the stress from the final year project. i think about it even when i sleep and i wake up in the morning thinking SHIT FYP. after this is all over i'll take a loooonnnngggg looooonnnggggggggggg break to rest and recharge.

live sketch of a muslim lady on the bus. did this a while back and i like the relaxed, free lines in this. i'm trying to get it back. stay tuned.

Illustration Friday - Red
Poppies in July - Sylvia Plath

Little poppies, little hell flames,
Do you do no harm?

You flicker. I cannot touch you.
I put my hands among the flames. Nothing burns.

And it exhausts me to watch you
Flickering like that, wrinkly and clear red, like the skin of a mouth

A mouth just bloodied
Little bloody skirts!
There are fumes that I cannot touch.
Where are your opiates, your nauseous capsules?

If I could bleed, or sleep! -
If my mouth could marry a hurt like that!
Or your liquors seep to me, in this glass capsule,
Dulling and stilling.

But colorless. Colorless.

Do you do no harm?
You flicker. I cannot touch you.

Not really an Illustration Friday - Help
a set of postcards that failed to make it to production.
sometimes when one wants to commercialize art, one has to think of the market reception. if they don't like it, you don't make it. bahhhhhh. i say to hell with that.
but not right now though. :( i'm too poor to invest money in something that wouldn't sell.
help! T_T~
oh wells.
